1. The agreement
Versiah, including the website at versiah.com, the iOS and Android apps and related services (the “Service”), is provided by United Castles Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16364716, registered office 75 Prince George Drive, Derby DE22 3XA, United Kingdom (“Versiah”, “we”, “us”).
By creating an account, buying anything, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these terms and confirm you have read our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. If you use Versiah on behalf of a church, ministry or other organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it, and “you” includes that organisation.
Section 12 contains additional terms for ministers and ministries who publish on Versiah (“Ministry Partners”).
2. Who can use Versiah
- You must be at least 13 years old.
- If you are under 18, or under the age of legal adulthood or digital consent where you live, you may use Versiah only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms for you and is responsible for your use.
- You must be 18 or older to make a purchase or to become a Ministry Partner.
- You may not use Versiah if you are barred from doing so by law, including if you are subject to UK, EU, UN or US sanctions, or located in a country or region subject to comprehensive sanctions.
3. Your account
You sign in with Apple, Google or a one-time email link. Keep access to your email and sign-in accounts secure, give us accurate information, and tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for activity on your account unless it happened because of our failure.
Your account is personal. Do not share, sell or transfer it. You can delete it at any time in the app’s settings or by writing to us; our Privacy Policy explains what happens to your data.
4. What Versiah is
Versiah is a Bible reader and an AI Bible companion. It lets you read Scripture, ask questions about it, study verses in depth, join fellowship rooms, and use Ministry Guides.
- Scripture is quoted from the translation you choose, as stored in our database, with a citation you can open. We do not machine-translate Scripture.
- A Ministry Guide is a way of exploring the Bible that draws on a particular minister’s published teaching. It is built from their material; it is not the minister speaking, it is not a Bible translation, and it does not mean the minister has reviewed or approved any individual answer.
- Reflection written by the AI is always shown separately from Scripture and from a minister’s teaching.
Versiah is not affiliated with or endorsed by any church, denomination or translation publisher unless we say so.
5. AI answers, and what they are not
When you ask Versiah a question that is not simply a Scripture reference, the answer is generated by artificial intelligence. You are talking to an AI system, not a person.
- AI can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, even when it sounds confident. Check what matters to you against the Scripture it cites, and talk to your pastor, church or a trusted person about important questions of faith.
- Versiah does not speak for God, does not claim revelation or prophecy, and cannot know anyone’s spiritual state. Different Christian traditions read some passages differently; Versiah aims to be fair to them, but it does not settle doctrinal questions.
- Versiah is not a pastor, counsellor, therapist, doctor, lawyer or financial adviser, and its answers are not professional advice. Do not rely on it for medical, mental health, legal, financial or other decisions where professional help is needed.
- You may use the answers you receive for your personal, non-commercial study, and share them with others. Because similar questions can get similar answers, we do not promise any answer is unique to you.
If you believe an answer misquotes Scripture or misrepresents a minister’s teaching, please report it in the app or at [email protected]. We review every report.
6. If you are in crisis
Versiah is not an emergency or crisis service. If you or someone else is in danger or thinking about self-harm, contact your local emergency number now (for example 112 in Nigeria and the EU, 999 in the UK, 911 in the US), or find a free, confidential helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. When a message suggests someone may be at risk, Versiah will show crisis resources, but it cannot contact anyone for you.
7. Your content
“Your content” means what you put into Versiah: questions, notes, messages in rooms, your profile and anything else you submit. You keep ownership of it.
You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, process, transmit and display your content only as needed to provide, secure and improve the Service for you and, for content you post in a shared space such as a room or your public card, to show it to the people who can see that space. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we must keep by law (as our Privacy Policy explains) and content others have already received, such as a message in a room.
We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not allow our AI providers to.
You are responsible for your content, and you promise that you have the right to share it and that it follows these terms and the law.
8. Rules for using Versiah
You agree not to use Versiah to:
- break the law, or help anyone else to;
- harass, bully, threaten, intimidate or abuse anyone, or promote hatred or violence against people because of their religion, race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, disability or any other protected characteristic;
- post sexual content, content that sexualises or endangers children (which we report to the authorities), graphic violence, or content encouraging self-harm;
- impersonate a person, minister, church or organisation, or falsely claim an affiliation;
- post content that infringes anyone’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights, or share another person’s personal information without their permission;
- spam, scam, advertise without permission, or solicit money from other users;
- access the Service by automated means (bots, scrapers), extract Scripture, Guides or answers in bulk, or use them to build or train a competing product or AI model;
- try to get around usage limits, paywalls, safety systems or security, probe or attack our systems, or interfere with other users;
- try to make the AI produce harmful content, or reverse engineer the Service except where the law allows;
- resell or commercially exploit access to the Service without our written permission.
Sincere questions and honest disagreement about faith are welcome. Treat others with the respect you would like to receive.
9. Reporting, moderation and complaints
Reporting. You can report a message, a person, a room, a Guide or an AI answer in the app, or email [email protected] with a link to it, an explanation of why you think it is illegal or breaks these terms, your name and email address (unless you are reporting child sexual abuse material), and a statement that your report is accurate and made in good faith. You can block other users in rooms.
What we do. We review reports promptly, fairly and without bias, using people and, where helpful, automated tools; we tell you when a decision has been made automatically. We may remove or restrict content, limit features, suspend or close accounts, or withhold payouts, in proportion to the problem. When we act against your content or account, we tell you what we did and why, which rule or law it concerns, and how to challenge it, unless the law prevents us or it would put someone at risk. We report content involving a threat to life or safety to the authorities where we must.
Challenging a decision. If you disagree with a decision about your content, account or report, reply to our notice or write to [email protected] within six months. A person who was not involved in the original decision will review it and tell you the result. If you live in the EU, you may also use a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body, and you can always go to court.
Point of contact. Users and authorities, including EU Member State authorities under the Digital Services Act, can reach us at [email protected], in English, French or Spanish.
10. Purchases
Prices and payment
We show the price, the currency, what is included and whether access is ongoing before you pay. Prices include any taxes we are required to charge, unless we say otherwise. Your country (from your connection or profile) decides the currency and which payment provider processes your payment; your bank may charge conversion or other fees. Payments on the web are processed by Flutterwave or, for stablecoins, Blockradar, under their terms. Access is granted once the payment provider confirms the payment to us.
Bible Pass
A Bible Pass bought on our website is a one-time payment. It does not renew and there is nothing to cancel. It gives the named holder access to Versiah’s paid features, including AI answers and deep study, for the lifetime of the Service. “Lifetime” means for as long as we operate Versiah, not your lifetime; if we ever close the Service, we will give at least 90 days’ notice, and this does not affect your statutory rights. A Bible Pass is personal and cannot be resold.
Fair use
To keep Versiah affordable, AI answers and studies may be subject to a fair daily limit. The limit that applies is shown in the app and before you buy. We will not reduce it below what we showed you when you bought your pass, except to stop abuse such as automated use or account sharing.
App store subscriptions
In the iOS and Android apps you can subscribe monthly or yearly through Apple or Google. Subscriptions renew automatically at the price shown until you cancel, and your store account is charged within 24 hours before each renewal. You can cancel at any time in your Apple or Google account settings; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Billing, cancellation and refunds for these subscriptions are handled by Apple or Google under their terms. If you also hold a Bible Pass, your store subscription is not cancelled automatically; cancel it in your store settings to stop being charged.
Ministry Guides
A Ministry Guide is a one-time purchase that gives you access to that Guide for the lifetime of the Service, on the same basis as a Bible Pass. We sell access to Guides as the seller, and your contract for the purchase is with us. The minister provides the teaching the Guide is built from; the minister is described on each Guide’s page. If a Guide has to be removed (for example for legal reasons or because it breaks these terms), we will offer you a replacement or a refund where the law requires.
Gifts and sponsorships
You can buy a Bible Pass or Guide for someone else, or for a group. You must have the recipient’s permission, or a reasonable belief they would welcome it, to give us their name and email address, and you must not use gifts to send unwanted messages. The recipient becomes the holder once they claim it. A claim link is like cash: anyone who has it can claim the gift, so share it only with the intended person. Group discounts apply as shown at checkout. A gift, once claimed, cannot be refunded to you or transferred again.
Stablecoin payments
If you pay with USDC or USDT, the price is set in US dollars and you must send the exact amount shown, on the network shown, to the address shown, within the time shown. Blockchain transactions are irreversible: payments sent on the wrong network, to the wrong address, or for the wrong amount may be lost, and we cannot recover them. You pay any network fees. Refunds, where due, are made in the same stablecoin to an address you give us, or by another method we agree, for the US dollar amount you paid. We accept stablecoins only as payment for Versiah; we do not hold, exchange or transfer crypto-assets for you, and nothing on Versiah is investment advice.
11. Cancellation and refunds
Our promise. If you bought a Bible Pass or Guide directly from us and it is not right for you, write to [email protected] within 14 days of purchase. If you have used only a handful of answers, we will give you a full refund.
If you live in the UK, the EU, the EEA or Switzerland you also have a legal right to cancel a purchase of digital content within 14 days without giving a reason. You lose that right once access begins only if, before you paid, you expressly asked for immediate access and acknowledged that you would lose the right to cancel, and we confirmed this to you in writing. To cancel, use the cancellation option in the app or on your receipt, or send us a clear statement by email. We refund you within 14 days, using the same payment method.
Faulty digital content. If the Service or something you bought is faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose, you have rights under consumer law, such as repair, replacement, a price reduction or a refund. These terms do not limit them.
App store purchases are refunded by Apple or Google under their policies. Gifts can be refunded to the buyer only if they have not been claimed.
12. Ministry Partner terms
This section applies if you apply to publish on Versiah or are approved as a Ministry Partner (“Partner”), in addition to the rest of these terms. You act as a business or ministry, not as a consumer.
12.1 Applying
You must be at least 18, able to enter a binding contract, and authorised to act for your ministry. We may approve or decline an application, and we tell you why if we decline. You must keep your details accurate, including whether you publish as a business (a “trader”) or as an individual, which we show to buyers.
12.2 Your material and the licence you give us
You keep ownership of the sermons, documents, transcripts, videos, names, logos and other material you provide (“Partner Material”). You give United Castles Ltd a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence, with the right to use our service providers, to host, copy, store, transcribe, index, embed, analyse and process Partner Material with AI; to build and run your Guide from it; to quote, summarise, paraphrase and translate it (including into English, French and Spanish) in answers given to users, with attribution to you; and to use your name, likeness, logo and short excerpts to present and promote your Guide on and off Versiah. To the extent the law allows, you consent to these uses, including summarising and translating your words, for the purpose of moral rights. We will not use Partner Material to train general AI models, and we will not sell it to anyone.
The licence lasts while you are a Partner. After it ends, it continues only so that people who already bought your Guide keep the access they paid for, unless we remove the Guide for a legal reason, and for copies we must keep by law.
12.3 Your promises
You promise that:
- you own or have all rights and permissions needed for everything you upload, including any Bible translation quoted beyond what its publisher allows, music, images, and the words of other speakers;
- Partner Material is not unlawful, defamatory, hateful, sexually explicit or misleading, does not infringe anyone’s rights, and follows section 8;
- you will not misrepresent who you are or your ministry;
- you comply with the laws that apply to you, including tax and charity laws.
12.4 How your Guide works
Your Guide goes live once you publish it. We do not review every item in advance, but we may review, restrict or remove Guides or Partner Material that breaks these terms or the law, following section 9. Guide answers are generated by AI from your material and may not always reflect your views precisely; Versiah always presents a Guide as built from your teaching, never as you speaking. The order in which Guides appear depends mainly on relevance to what the reader is looking for, and their language; you cannot pay for better placement. You see anonymised usage statistics and limited reader information as described in our Privacy Policy; you must use it only to understand your audience, keep it confidential, and never contact readers through it.
12.5 Pricing, sales and earnings
- You choose your Guide’s price, at or above the platform base price shown in your dashboard. United Castles Ltd sells access to your Guide to buyers as the seller of record, sets the other terms of sale, and handles payment, refunds and customer support.
- For each sale, the amount above the platform base price is the “markup”. We keep the platform base price and a commission on the markup (currently 10%), and you earn the rest of the markup. The base price, commission and any changes are shown in your dashboard; changes apply only to sales after the change, with notice under section 12.8.
- Earnings become available after a holding period (currently 14 days) so that refunds and chargebacks can be settled. If a sale is refunded, reversed or found to be fraudulent, the related earnings are deducted from your balance or future earnings.
- You can withdraw available earnings once they reach the minimum shown in your dashboard, after verifying your identity and bank account. Transfer fees are shown before you withdraw. We pay through our payment partners and may delay or withhold a payout that we reasonably believe relates to fraud, a breach of these terms or a legal requirement, and we tell you why.
- You are responsible for your own taxes on your earnings. We may request tax information and may report or withhold amounts where the law requires.
- Your balance records what we owe you; it is not a deposit or stored value, and does not earn interest. If we make an error in your earnings, either way, we will correct it.
12.6 Verification
To prevent fraud and meet legal obligations, you must verify your identity and bank account through our provider before your first withdrawal. We may repeat checks, screen against sanctions lists, and suspend payouts if verification fails.
12.7 Indemnity
You will compensate United Castles Ltd for losses, costs (including reasonable legal costs) and liabilities arising from a third-party claim that your Partner Material infringes their rights or is unlawful, or from your breach of section 12.3, except to the extent caused by us.
12.8 Changes, suspension and ending
We will give you at least 15 days’ notice by email of changes to these Partner terms, or longer if the change requires you to make significant adjustments, and you may end your partnership before the change takes effect. Shorter notice may apply where the law requires a change or to address an unforeseen danger, fraud or security risk. If we restrict or suspend your Guide, we tell you why when we do it; if we decide to end your partnership, we tell you why at least 30 days in advance, unless the law requires otherwise, you have repeatedly broken these terms, or there is a serious risk to users. You may challenge any such decision under section 9. You may end your partnership at any time by writing to us; available earnings will be paid out, subject to section 12.5.
13. Intellectual property and copyright complaints
The Service, its software, design, the Versiah name and logo, and the content we create belong to United Castles Ltd or our licensors. Bible translations belong to their publishers or are in the public domain. These terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial purposes; they do not give you any other rights.
Copyright complaints. If you believe content on Versiah infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with: your contact details; a description of the work; the link to the content; a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them; and your physical or electronic signature. We act on valid notices promptly (within 48 hours where Nigerian law requires) and tell the person who posted the content, who may send a counter-notice. We close the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.
14. Third-party services and the app stores
Versiah uses and links to services run by others, such as sign-in, payment providers, YouTube and the app stores. Their terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for them.
If you got the app from Apple’s App Store:
- these terms are between you and United Castles Ltd, not Apple, and we, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content;
- your licence to use the app is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as the App Store’s Usage Rules allow;
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app;
- if the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app (if any); to the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation;
- we, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims relating to the app, including product liability, failure to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection, privacy, and claims that the app infringes someone’s intellectual property;
- you confirm you are not in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties;
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
If you got the app from Google Play, Google Play’s terms also apply.
15. Changes to the Service
We keep improving Versiah and may add, change or remove features. We will not make a change that substantially reduces what you paid for without a valid reason, such as a legal requirement, security, or a change by a provider we depend on. If we do, we will tell you in advance, and if the change negatively affects your access to something you paid for more than minimally, you may end your agreement and receive a proportionate refund. We aim to keep Versiah available but cannot guarantee it will always be uninterrupted or error-free.
16. Suspension and ending
You can stop using Versiah and delete your account at any time. Deleting your account ends access to anything you bought, so we recommend cancelling any app store subscription first.
We may suspend or close your account, or restrict features, if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect other users or the Service. We act proportionately, tell you why and how to challenge it under section 9, and give you notice where we reasonably can. If we close your account without a valid reason under these terms, we refund the unused value of what you paid. We may also end free accounts that have been inactive for more than two years, after giving you notice by email.
Sections that by their nature should survive (such as your content licence for content already shared, sections 12.5 to 12.7, 13 and 17 to 22) continue after this agreement ends.
17. Our responsibility for the Service
We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill. If you are a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to services and digital content that are not as described, faulty or not fit for purpose, and nothing in these terms affects them.
Beyond those rights and what we expressly promise in these terms, and to the extent the law allows, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise that AI answers will be accurate, complete or suitable for your purposes (see section 5), and we are not responsible for content posted by other users or Ministry Partners, although we act on reports as described in section 9.
18. Limits on our liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under the law that applies to you, including your statutory rights as a consumer.
If you are a consumer, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it is obvious that it will happen, or if both of us knew it might happen when you accepted these terms. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable, or for business losses, since Versiah is for personal use. If digital content we supplied damages your device or other digital content because we did not use reasonable care and skill, we will repair the damage or compensate you.
If you use Versiah as a business, ministry or Ministry Partner, to the extent the law allows: we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or loss of profit, revenue, goodwill or data; and our total liability arising out of or in connection with these terms in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid us, plus the commission we earned from your sales, in that period, or £100. This does not limit our obligation to pay you earnings that are due.
19. If you misuse the Service
If you use Versiah as a business or Ministry Partner, and a third party makes a claim against us because of your content or your breach of these terms, you will compensate us for the reasonable costs and losses that result, except to the extent we caused them. This section does not apply to consumers, beyond what the law of your country otherwise provides.
20. Disputes and governing law
If something goes wrong, please write to [email protected] first; most problems can be solved quickly. We will try to resolve any complaint within 30 days.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales or in the courts of the country where you live. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may bring proceedings there. We will bring any proceedings against a consumer only in the courts of the country where they live.
If you use Versiah as a business, ministry or Ministry Partner, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that either of us may seek urgent relief in any court.
Nothing in these terms requires you to use arbitration or waive the right to take part in a class or collective action, where the law gives you those rights. If you live in the EU, you can also use the European Commission’s information on consumer dispute resolution, and in the UK, an approved alternative dispute resolution provider, although we are not obliged to use one.
21. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms for a valid reason, such as a change in the law, in how Versiah works, or to make them clearer. The date at the top shows when they last changed. For a change that matters to you, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect (15 days’ minimum for Ministry Partners, as section 12.8 describes), unless the law requires a faster change. If you do not accept a change, you can stop using Versiah and delete your account before it takes effect, and if the change materially reduces what you paid for, receive a proportionate refund. Changes never apply to disputes that arose before they took effect.
22. General
- Whole agreement. These terms, the Privacy Policy, and anything shown to you at the point of purchase are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
- Transfer. We may transfer this agreement to another organisation that takes over Versiah, and we will tell you; your rights under it will not be reduced. You may not transfer your rights under it without our written consent.
- Events outside our control. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, but we will tell you and do what we reasonably can to reduce the effect.
- Severability. If a court decides part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- Third parties. Except for Apple as section 14 describes, no one else has rights under these terms.
- Language. These terms are written in English and may be translated. If a translation differs, the English version applies, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
- Notices. We may send you notices by email to the address on your account or in the app. You can send notices to [email protected] or our registered office.
